The Los Angeles Police Department is considering one of their previously donated drones in a one-year pilot program.
LAPD says the drones would simply be used as an extra set of eyes, and say that strict criteria for the use of the drones would be set down and that a high-ranking department official would have to approve each use, and a detailed, documented report would also be filed with each use.
Activists staged protests to the idea. Some feared that weapons would be attached to the drones, while others were simply against the surveillance they can create.
