Commuters in the east San Gabriel Valley might have a tough time getting to work today. It's all thanks to Foothill Transit mechanics staging a strike after their union was unable to reach a new labor agreement.
Nineteen bus lines located in the San Gabriel Valley have been affected by the strike. The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1756 was negotiating with a new company - Keolis Commuter Services - after they took over Foothill Transit. Bus maintenance and bus operations have both been brought to a halt thanks to the strike.
Bus Lines affected by the strike include 195, 197, 282, 285, 286, 289, 291, 292, 482, 486, 488, 492, 495, 497, 499, 699, 853, 854, and 855.
To help offset the affected lines, extra westbound trips have been added to Line 498 and the Silver Streak in West Covina. Additional service will also be provided on Line 493 out of Industry Park and Ride.
