Los Angeles Charger Casey Hayward Joins Gary and Shannon

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward joins Gary and Shannon in studio today to discuss his time with the Chargers, the move to Los Angeles, and his expectations for the upcoming season.

The Chargers signed former Green Bay Packers cornerback Casey Hayward to a three-year contract in March.

Hayward has nine career interceptions. In 2014, he tied for the Packers’ team lead in interceptions, while tying for seventh in the NFL in total takeaways and ranking eighth in interception return yards. As a rookie in 2012, Hayward led the team and tied for fifth in the NFL with six picks, while also pacing the squad with 25 passes defensed. His six interceptions led all NFL rookies and they were the most by a Packers rookie since 1999.

Hayward just missed out on his 10th career interception during a game against the Chargers last October as a false start penalty against the Bolts negated Hayward’s would-be pick.

Hayward oversees the Hayward’s Hands Foundation, which annually hosts a Thanksgiving Drive, a Christmas Toy Drive and a youth football camp in his native Perry, Georgia. Casey started the foundation with his mother, Tish, who died last year from breast cancer.  She was honored by NFL Mothers and Paradigm 360 in 2015 for her work with Casey and the Foundation.

Hayward hopes to take advantage of business classes he took at Vanderbilt to own a couple of Chick-fil-A restaurants after he hangs up his football cleats.
