A portion of the Ventura Freeway is one step closer to being named after former President Barack Obama.
The Assembly Transportation Committee has passed a resolution this week to rename a stretch between the 2 and 210 the President Barack H. Obama Freeway. Obama lived in Pasadena when he attended Occidental College between 1979 and 1981, and traveled the Ventura Freeway from his apartment to the campus.
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Eagle Rock), has already made it through the state Senate, and will now go to the full Assembly. The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to rename a portion of Rodeo Road as Obama Boulevard to honor the president.
