UPS Store in Culver City Will Be Run By Adults With Autism

UPS May Hires70,000 Temp Workers For Holiday Rush

Young adults with autism will be staffing up a UPS store opening in Culver City on Wednesday. The store is located inside the LA Speech and Language Therapy Center. Pamela Wiley, President and Founder of the Center says adults will get to learn social and language skills they can practice while working a job.

"We're going to give the kids the benefits of learning a range of skills that are transferable to other settings."

Each student will be taught social and language skills while working at the lab that's the first of its kind in the nation.

"Because it is a simulated workplace setting, we're also able to work with them in terms of 'what are some of the challenges you're facing?'"

The students are eligible to receive a paycheck based on their sales. Wiley says a new staff will run the store each year.
