One Million Immigrants Could Become Citizens Under New Program

A new initiative to turn one million immigrants into full-fledged citizens is being cheered on by L.A.'s Mayor Garcetti.

Garcetti says Los Angeles is joining another two dozen cities across the US

"To make sure that every eligible Angeleno enjoys the benefits of citizenship, Los Angeles has joined a nationwide campaign called 'Naturalize Now!'."

Naturalize Now says it has a goal of making 1 million new citizens out of immigrants this year. The Naturalize Now! campaign is joined by dozens of progressive and liberal groups and cities across the nation, many of whom are considered 'sanctuary cities'.

Mayor Garcetti says Los Angeles joined because they believe the principles of freedom, justice, unity, and equality make us who we are.

"Los Angeles joined the Naturalize NOW campaign because those principles are still worth fighting for — and to encourage eligible Angelenos and people across the country to seek a path toward citizenship and join the American family."
