After a man was unable to break through a Castaic woman's front door, the intruder went around back to force his way in. But, instead of finding anything to steal, the burglar found himself on the wrong end of the homeowner's weapon.
"He was able to forcefully able to gain entry through a back door. At which time, the homeowner retrieved her firearm and shot the suspect in the chest," LA County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Kraft told the media.
Investigators say the woman was home alone at the time, and she called 911 first, only using her weapon as a last resort. Authorities say she fired one shot, hitting the man in the chest.
The intruder was later taken to the hospital where he listed in fair condition. He remains in custody on a burglary charge.
Anyone with information about the attempted burglary is asked to call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Detective Bureau at 661-255-1121.
