Transparent California says over the top overtime for Firefighters is costing taxpayers in Orange County. One fire captain made more than four times his salary last year according to the report.
"43 employees are receiving overtime that is actually greater than their regular salary," Robert Fellner with Transparent California said.
The Orange County Fire Authority spent $47 million on overtime - that's an increase of about 18% year-over-year according to Fellner.
The average fire captain made over $300,000 in pay and benefits in 2016. The OC Fire Authority says a shortage of firefighters has been the main cause of all that overtime. Some of the firefighters are also called to help out on major events in other parts of the state.
