We have a new congressman for California's 34th District. Democrat state Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez beat attorney Robert Lee Ahn by nearly 20 points.
The congressional district runs between Boyle Heights in the east through downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown.
Election night results had Gomez beating Ahn with a 60-40 lead. Ahn called Gomez Tuesday evening to concede the race. Both candidates are Democrats.
The special election was held after long-time representative Congressman Xavier Becerra was appointed to be California's attorney general. Becerra, along with other local political leaders endorsed Gomez for his seat, making him the frontrunner for much of the race.
County officials say turnout was low, with around 10.9 percent of voters casting nearly 33,000 ballots participating in the special election.
