Stretch of Seal Beach reopened after shark sighting

Seal Beach has re-opened after one surfer's close encounter with a great white shark.

A stretch of the beach from the San Gabriel river to the Seal Beach pier was marked off-limits for a short time after a paddleboarder caught a wave and slammed directly into the shark off of Seal Beach. Lifeguards conducted a brief search for the 5-foot shark, and then closed down the beach.

Fortunately, the paddleboarder was uninjured, and his board was undamaged.

Several sharks have been sited off the Orange County coast this season, with the predators showing up in increasing numbers over the last two years .

The beach reopened on Sunday morning.
