Facebook activates a Safety Check following the 'explosions' in Manchester

Following the reported explosions at Manchester Arena there was mass confusion over the cause and the level of danger concert-goers were in.

Facebook quickly reacted to the numerous posts about missing loved ones by activating their safety check feature. It allows users to let their friends know they are safe, search for friends in the area who are safe, or ask friends where there they are safe.

Several people have posted pictures on social media of loved ones that they have not been able to contact since the news broke. One user tweeted a picture of her young brother who she lost in the chaos.

Sadly a lot of the fans at the concert were young children and teens. Local hotels have set up a hashtag to help reconnect lost children with their loved ones.
