An Amazon brick-and-mortar store is coming to Los Angeles. The online giant has been accused of weakening the physical bookselling industry with their website but they hope to rectify that with multiple storefronts.
Amazon Books is planning to open a bookstore in a Century City mall. The new retail store will be in a 5,227-square-foot space in the upscale Westfield Century City.
Los Angeles Business Journal reports that Amazon was “poking around” LA the past few months, “eyeing locations including Old Pasadena and Melrose Avenue.”
The store will not take cash or credit and it will encourage their customers to complete their transactions on the app. Amazon Prime members will receive their discount in the store just like they would online. Those who do not pay for an Amazon membership service will pay 20%-30% more.
There's no word on a specific opening date of Amazon Books.
