There's a whole lot of billionaires in Los Angeles County, at least, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal's annual list of the 58 wealthiest Angelenos. The annual list showed a combined net worth for all 58 tycoons to be more than $203 billion - twice that of Walt Disney Company, Southern California's largest publicly traded company.
The list was expanded from 50 to 58 this year as more billionaires have set up shop in Los Angeles County. Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, the medical innovator responsible for groundbreaking work on diabetes, topped the list for a record 9th straight year. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, came in at number 2 for the fourth consecutive year.
There were some newcomers to the list, including pop culture icons Jay Z and Beyonce, along with Activision Blizzard Chief Executive Bobby Kotick.
The Journal has been tracking the net worth of high-income Angelenos since 1994. In 2015, all 50 spots were occupied by billionaires for the first time ever.
