Los Angeles police say they've arrested a suspect in the brutal beating of a 15-year-old San Pedro high school student in an unrelated case.
Freshman Evan Jimenez was attacked while he was walking home from a friends house on March 30th. Sheriff's Seargeant Ricky Osburn told the Daily Breeze newspaper that 20-year-old Jaymel Williams confessed to investigators about his involvement in the beating.
The reputed gang member was arrested on April 23rd by San Bernardino County Sheriffs for burglary after fleeing to San Bernardino County following the beating of Jimenez.
Williams could face charges that include assault with a deadly weapon, and possibly attempted murder. There was no word on whether Williams had an attorney.
Doctors say they expect Jimenez to survive, but will face a long recovery. Authorities are still investigating whether a second suspect was involved in the attack on the San Pedro High School freshman. A fundraiser for Jimenez's medical costs and ongoing care is set for May 21st at Brouwerij West in San Pedro. A GoFundMe Page has raised nearly $145,000 for Jimenez's medical expenses.
