Las Vegas Police has arrested a man they say sucker-punched a 45-year-old Southern California man during a brief confrontation last month on a downtown Las Vegas sidewalk.

Metropolitan Police say they arrested James Beach (also known as James Michael Garcia) on Sunday and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Police say during a brief confrontation outside the Vanguard Lounge in downtown Las Vegas, Beach allegedly hit and killed Luis Campos, a 45-year-old from La Plunte, California as they were waiting in line to get into the nightclub.

The incident occurred just after 1:30 in the morning on April 30th on Fremont Street near South Las Vegas Boulevard. Officers were summoned to the area after people standing outside the nightclub flagged down police to investigate the fight that just happened.

When officer arrived, they found Campos unconscious with a head injury. He was transported to UMC Trauma with what appeared to be a life-threatening injury.

Campos later died from his injuries on May 4th. He is survived by his wife, Julieanne and five children. According to Julieanne, her husband was in Vegas to celebrate his brother's bachelor party.

Video surveillance captured footage of two men fleeing the scene of the incident on Fremont Street. Las Vegas Metro detectives later identified Beach from the video and interviewed him. Detectives located Beach on May 7th and took him into custody without incident.

A second man identified on the surveillance video was also identified and interviewed and later released.
