Just When You Think Airlines Couldn't Get Worse...

American Airlines is planning on decreasing the legroom space in their economy class seating by an additional two inches.

The airline says the decrease is to make room for additional seats on their Boeing 737 Max jetliners.

The legroom, also known as pitch, would decrease from 31 inches to 29 inches in three rows of the plane and the rest of economy gets bumped down to 30.

When the change is made, American will be the first large US carrier to have legroom that's similar to super low cost carriers Spirit and Frontier Airlines.

In comparison, Delta and United economy class pitches range between 30 and 31 inches.

JetBlue, Southwest and Alaska Airlines have between 31 and 33 inches for their pitches.
