Space Mountain To Return to Its Roots

Space Mountain is turning 40 in May, and in honor of the anniversary, it’s shedding its Star Wars makeover.

On June 1, the galactic coaster will return to its original state to honor four decades of existence. The iconic ride first debuted in Disney World in 1975 and launched at the California park in 1977. Two years ago, it was redesigned to be Star Wars-themed following the success of the latest films in the franchise and was renamed Hyperspace Mountain.

The ride features flashing lights, twisting turns, and spiralling hills all located inside of the 76-foot dome. It was designed to appear futuristic but the ride stands as one of the classic elements of the Disney theme parks.
