With Los Angeles and Paris and the sole competitors for the 2024 Olympics, Los Angeles has been beefing up its portfolio to win the IOC over in September.
Should the city win the bid, the city would get some slight adjustments in preparation for the games. LA 2024, the city’s bid committee, has released some renderings of a vibrant temporary sports park that would be created in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area that would host equestrian, shooting, and canoe events during the games.
This venue would be called the Valley Sports Park, where the collection of facilities would be one of four others in the LA area. The three other facilities would be located in Downtown LA, Carson, and Long Beach. This past September LA 2024 released some photos of the sports park in Long Beach, which would include temporary facilities that can be easily disassembled after the games.
Existing facilities will also see some slight renovations to accommodate the games. The Coliseum would be outfitted with a raised track that would allow medalists to rise from below the surface on an elevator-like podium. While the USC Dedeaux Field would be transformed into an open air swimming stadium.
If these facilities didn’t sound impressive enough, bid leaders are saying that each facility will have food and entertainment options around the venues for ticket-holders and the general public to enjoy.
