More than 100 military travelers were in for a great surprise when they arrived at at LAX on Tuesday.
Nearly 100 Girl Scouts and parents treated and greeted them with their world-famous Girl Scout Cookies. Jill Villalpando with the Bob Hope USO told KFI's Kris Ankarlo the Girl Scouts and their cookies are much needed reinforcements, "we served last year over 93,400 service members and their family members while they're in travel status.
The Girl Scouts sold cookies specifically for the troops on top of what they normally sell. One of the girls told Ankarlo some of them they needed a little extra motivation, "if we got over 500 we got to smash a pie in our troop leader's face."
The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles set a regional goal of donating 100,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to local nonprofit charities through its Gift of Caring program and they met that goal.
One of the scouts said that what they really enjoy is telling service men and women in uniform "thank you for serving our country and keeping us safe."
2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies.
