Convicted murderer and former NFL star Aaron Hernandez has committed suicide in his Massachusetts prison cell.
The Massachusetts Department of Correction (MDOC) released a statement that Hernandez was found hanging in his cell this morning.
“Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”
He was transported to UMass Leominster after resuscitation attempts were tried.
Hernandez was pronounced dead an hour later.
This comes days after he was acquitted of the fatal shootings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012.
Hernandez was serving a separate life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2013 shooting of Odin Lloyd.
The MDOC says the police are investigating the scene and at the time of this post, the Patriots and Hernandez's lawyer have yet to comment.
