A court order forced the closure of the Beachwood Drive gate, leaving hikers and tourists to find a different way to get a view of the Hollywood Sign.
Friends of Griffith Park president, Marian Dodge, told KFI's Andrew Mollenbeck the closure ends a long tradition, "the access point at the upper end of Beachwood Canyon has been used by the public since the 1920's."
The city has given hikers a detour to Canyon Drive and other trails in the park. The closure was part of a lawsuit over hikers using land owned by Sunset Ranch Hollywood stables.
