LONG BEACH (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV today while in a crosswalk in Long Beach, and the man was dragged about a block by the vehicle before it was pulled over by a patrolling officer, police said.
The crash was reported about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Seventh Street and Park Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The pedestrian was dragged under the SUV for about a block on southbound Park Avenue before the motorist was stopped by an officer who happened to be patrolling in the area when the crash occurred, according to police.
The man, who was in his 50s, died at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
Police interviewed the 82-year-old driver and his female passenger and then released them, pending further investigation.
