Deputies shoot suspect who ran, grabbed gun in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say deputies investigating a burglary fatally shot a suspect who ran from them and grabbed a gun.

Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza says the deputies made contact with a man they spotted sitting in a parked car in a South LA alley shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Mendoza says the man broke free from the deputies' grasp and ran back to the vehicle to retrieve a semi-automatic handgun.

He says when deputies saw the gun, they opened fire and the man was struck at least once. The suspect died at the scene. He has not been identified.
