Eastbound lanes on the I-10 East near Peck Road in El Monte have been shut down and blocked "until further notice," according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP did not disclose the reason for the closure.
El Monte Police are assisting the CHP and have been spotted walking the highway with flashlights.
Some cars are being allowed through the HOV lane, but most cars are being diverted at Valley Blvs and Garvey. People are being advised to avoid the area entirely.
