GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a firefighter suffered smoke inhalation while trying to rescue three dogs from a blaze that destroyed a home in suburban Southern California.
Residents in Garden Grove say neighbors had to prevent the homeowner from running back into her burning house to retrieve her dogs Sunday morning.
The Orange County Register reports firefighters rescued one of the animals and the two others managed to escape via a doggie door.
One firefighter was hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation. His condition wasn't available early Monday.
Nobody else was hurt but the home, built in 1971, was a total loss.
The cause is under investigation.
