A young, naked, human girl has been found living with monkeys in the Katraniaghat forest range of northern India. Even more than that, people have no idea who she is or where she came from.
Believed to be 10 to 12 years old, the girl was first spotted by woodcutters in the area. They alerted police, who went out to try to help the girl.
When they approached, the monkeys surrounded the girl out of protection, and actually attacked an officer that tried to recover the girl. All the while, the girl was screeching at the officer.
The officer ultimately did rescue the girl. She was soon admitted to a state-run, where she has been recovering and re-acclimating to human society for the past two months.
The doctors believe that the girl likely lived with the monkeys for a long period of time. Not only were her hair and nails unkempt like a monkey's, but she also didnot speak and would often choose to move on all fours rather than to walk on her feet.
D.K. Singh, the chief medical superintendent at Bahraich District Hospital, said, “The way she moved, even her eating habits were like that of an animal. She would throw food on the ground and eat it directly with her mouth, without lifting it with her hands. She used to move around using only her elbows and her knees.”
Doctors are still working on helping her transition back to life as a human. Initially, she had an averse reaction to all interactions, but she now will use gestures to communicate and even smiles on occasion.
