Can GPS Tracking Make Police Chases Safer?

A new-high tech GPS tracker is designed to cut down on the danger of police pursuits.

StarChase is a GPS tag that fires from a special built in compartment on the front of police cruisers.

Officers will fire the sticky dart using a laser on the launcher to hit the suspect's vehicle.

This will allow them to fall back and dispatch can track them from a safe distance.

The Tustin Police Department will be the first in Southern California to test the StarChase system.

Tustin police Lieutenant Robert Wright says this real-time tracker is a major benefit to law enforcement.

"You don’t know what the suspect is gonna do..the officer can drop back and no longer needs to continue those high speeds to chase the suspect.”

StarChase is already in use at agencies in Oregon and Washington.
