The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recognized Associated Press photographer Nick Ut Tuesday for his 51 year career with the news agency.
Ut recently retired from the AP.
He was best known for an image from the Vietnam War that showed a young Vietnamese girl running from a village after it was bombed with napalm and she was burned.
Ut drove her and others injured in the bombing to a hospital.
The girl in the photo, Kim Phuc, recovered and eventually moved to Canada.
She and Ut are in still in touch.
Ut moved to Los Angeles after the war and worked for the Associated Press until March.
