A woman climbed into a construction crane 150 feet above downtown Los Angeles yesterday and locked herself inside the operator's cabin. Police and firefighters surrounded the crane at the 100 block of West Cesar Chavez Avenue in a standoff with the woman that lasted for more than three hours.
Crews shut down power to the crane, preventing the woman from operating it, and potentially harming herself or others. At one point, the woman stepped outside of the cab standing near its edge. However, the SWAT team and police negotiators were able to convince the woman to return to the crane's cab.
She was eventually escorted down the crane and taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation according to police.
