Hit and Run Kills 5 Year Old

A 5-year-old was fatally hit by an SUV last night in South Los Angeles.

The boy was outside playing when he was hit.

LAPD Detective Ruben Mendoza says;

""It appears that he was running back to his residence and ran into the path of the Tahoe vehicle."

The crash happened at about 5:15 pm at an intersection and was captured on a home surveillance camera.

The video shows the car going about 40-45 miles per hour.

Witnesses say the suspected vehicle, a mid 1990's green Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, turned the corner, stopped then immediately sped away.

They also told police the boy may have been hit for a second time as the car left the scene.

Another officer says the boy was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Neighbor Felipe Carrillo says the he and other neighbors are in shock.

"It's terrible. Terrible because I have little nieces and nephews that are about the same age: 5, 6, 7."

Carrillo says people often speed around the neighborhood oftentimes doing donuts and burnouts.

The LAPD says the green SUV is described as having rear tinted windows and front end damage.

The suspected driver is described as a male, between the ages of 19 and 25 and there was an unidentified passenger in the car.
