RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A deputy has shot and killed a man in Southern California after authorities say the deputy responded to a vandalism report and was confronted by a man with a knife.
The Press-Enterprise reports that the Riverside County deputy fatally shot the man Wednesday. The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a hospital and later died.
Sheriff's department spokesman Deputy Mike Vasquez says the man was throwing rocks at the deputy and advanced toward the officer while armed with a knife.
A news release from the department says the man was shot after he refused the deputy's commands to drop the knife.
The deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave.
Wednesday's fatal incident comes after another Riverside County deputy fatally shot a man on Saturday.
