Ex-Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva stole hundreds of thousands of dollars meant for San Joaquin County's poorest children over a period of 4 years.
He laundered cash and charged trips on credit cards, prosecutors said yesterday. They accused him of money laundering, embezzlement, grand theft, and misappropriation of public funds.
The theft happened from 2010 to 2014, and involved money given to Silva by The Boys & Girls Club of America. Silva controlled the bank accounts for the Stockton Boys & Girls Club, the money given to him was supposed to be used at the local club.
Deputy District Attorney Robert Himelblau said:
“A significant portion of money flowed from the Boys & Girls Club to Anthony Silva’s personal account."
Silva also used credit cards from the now defunct Stockton Boys & Girls Club to fund his trips to the Philippines and South Lake Tahoe, as well as a recurring charge for an online dating site called Filipino Cupid.
Silva was taken into custody at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday and had his bail set at $1 million.
Not only was he a crappy Mayor, he's an even crappier person.
Last year he was arrested in August for playing strip-poker at his Amador County Youth Camp. He allegedly recorded youth counselors, one a boy as young as 16, playing strip poker, and gave alcohol to a minor.
Anthony Silva is a sleazy disgusting bastard.
