Sid Luft, former husband of legendary actress Judy Garland, claims that his wife was molested by some of the 'munchkins' on the set of The Wizard of Oz.
Luft, who died in 2005, wrote in a recently uncovered memoir:
"They thought they could get away with anything because they were so small. They would make Judy’s life miserable on set by putting their hands under her dress. The men were 40 or more years old."
Garland was only 16 at the time the movie was made.
There are all kinds of wild stories about the munchkin actors. Rumors of their 'dwarf sex parties' in the hotel where they lived during shooting "Oz" have become legendary in their own right.
Garland said that the actors were all drunks:
"They were drunks. They got smashed every night and the police used to scoop them up in butterfly nets."
One horrified observer of the munchkin shenanigans called them:
"An unholy assembly of pimps, hookers and gamblers."
