SALINAS, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say police in Central California shot and killed a knife-wielding teenager after failing to subdue him with a fire hose, rubber bullets and stun guns.
The Monterey Herald reports that 14 officers from the Salinas Police Department responded Wednesday to a report of a man on a Salinas sidewalk armed with a knife.Seven officers are on paid leave.
Monterey County Deputy District Attorney Ed Hazel tells the newspaper that teen was acting erratically the entire time.
Hazel says the teen went into a home and came out, turning toward officers when they opened fire.Authorities say an autopsy is scheduled Thursday. They didn't release the teen's name or age.
Salinas Police Chief Adele Fresé in a statement declined to comment. The investigation is ongoing.
