Officials in Los Angeles are offering a $25,000 reward for help in finding the culprits who are responsible for beating up a street vendor in South L.A. Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price plans on introducing a motion today seeking a $25,000 reward for any information that leads the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the persons responsible.
54-year-old Pedro Reyes was beaten and robbed Sunday morning near the corner of 31st and San Pedro streets. According to the LAPD, two suspects drove up in two vehicles, got out, and demanded money from the peanuts and coconut street vendor. When Reyes tried to flee the robbers, they chased him down and beat him.
John Patrick, Reyes' stepson says his stepfather went through an eight hour surgery after the beating.
"The attack against my stepfather has been such a blow to my family. We are all emotionally broken, and we are uncertain about the future."
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured video of the beating. LAPD Captain Mike Ricudis says detectives are looking through the surveillance video of the attack from last Sunday for clues.
"We hope with the reward, we are going to bring this case to an end and make an arrest," Rimcudis said.
The suspects in Reyes' beating are described as four black males, 25 to 40-years old, and one black female who is approximately 25-years old.
Reyes' family has established a GoFundMe account to help the street vendor with medical bills.
