RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a brag on Instagram led them to a 13-year-old boy who stole a bronze dove from a Southern California statue of a detective killed in the rampage of rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner.
The statue of slain San BernardinoCounty sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay went up in Lake ArrowheadVillage in September. A week later the dove was broken off and taken.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise and San Bernardino Sun report Thursday that a resident saw a picture of the dove this week online on Instagram, along with a boast from the boy who posted it, and called the Sheriff's Department.
Deputies arrested the boy at his LakeElsinore school, searched his home, and found the dove in a shoebox in his bedroom.
The boy and his parents were cited and he was released.
