SAN JACINTO (CNS) - A paraglider pilot crashed on the flank of North Mountain near San Jacinto, but escaped injury, officials said today.

The accident was reported at 8:49 p.m. Friday and occurred about 3,800 feet downhill from the top of North Mountain, between San Jacinto and Beaumont, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

The pilot's cell phone reception was sketchy but he managed to communicate with dispatchers. That and the crew aboard a Riverside Police Department helicopter helped pinpoint the pilot's location, Riverside police Lt. Frank Assumma said.

A friend of the pilot hiked from the bottom of North Mountain in an effort to look for the downed paraglider. Both the pilot and friend were found unharmed, Hagemann said.
