LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man allegedly used a hammer to kill a co-worker today during a fight at a SilverLake apartment complex construction site and later was arrested, police said.
The victim and suspect, both in their early to mid-20s, were working at the site and knew one another, said Sgt. John Marroquin, watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.
“They got into an altercation,” Marroquin said.
“One armed himself with a hammer and struck the other one.”
It was unclear what sparked the fight that occurred about 1:45 p.m. in the 4200 block of Burns Avenue, near Hoover Street, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The suspect fled the scene, but eventually was located by investigators, Officer Nuria Vanegas of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section said.
The suspect's name was not immediately released.
