LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An Amber Alert issued for two children illegally taken by their mother remained in effect today after the woman briefly returned to the scene of the alleged abduction -- her mother's home in Exposition Park -- without the children and allegedly seeming disoriented.
Ameenah Rasheedah Freeman, 37, took her 8-year-old son, Emanuel, and 9- year-old daughter, Adoniah, from their grandmother's home on West 35th Place about 3 p.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. For reasons that have not been publicly explained, Freeman did not have custody of the kids.
The children, both of whom suffer from asthma and require an inhaler, were allegedly snatched Monday afternoon and reported missing by their grandmother Tuesday morning. They were spotted about six hours later in Northridge, LAPD Officer Jane Kim said.
Police said Freeman may be driving a maroon 2011 Ford Edge with paper license plates from Airport Marina Ford.
Freeman returned to her mother's house Wednesday night without the children, appearing ``disoriented'' and ``unmedicated,'' police said. Someone called 911, but Freeman left before officers arrived.
Adoniah is black, 4 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 97 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink dress with white flowers.
Emanuel is black, 4 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 94 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black ``Mario Brothers'' T- shirt, black shorts with white stripes and black sandals.
Ameenah Freeman is black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black dress with black sandals.
Police initially believed Ameenah Freeman may have been attempting to drive the children to Phoenix, Arizona, where their biological father lives.
Anyone with information on the trio's whereabouts is urged to call detectives at the LAPD's Southwest Station at (213) 485- 6571.
