Seventh-grade sexting is more common than people realize.

A new study has found that almost a quarter of troubled seventh graders are sending sexually suggestive texts or pictures, and those who send sexy pics are more likely to engage in sexual behavior.

Researchers also found that girls are more likely to be sending photos than boys. Previous studies had shown fewer kids were sexting, but the new study published today in the journal Pediatrics shows the problem is more widespread than previously believed.

One of the researchers said earlier studies were done over the phone with parents present, leading kids to lie about their activities.
