'12 Years A Slave' Correction

'12 Years A Slave' Correction

It took long enough, but the New York Times is finally correcting a story.

In the article about a kidnapping victim who had been held for years against his will, the paper spelled his name two different ways, one in the headline and one in the story, but both were wrong.

The headline listed the man as Solomon Northrup, and as Northrop in the article. But the real name is Northup, with a U and no R. The New York Times today corrected the error in the story that was first published on January 20, 1853 -- 161 years ago -- about the man on whom this year's Best Picture is based, 12 Years A Slave.
