Man Dies From Gunshot Wound in Long Beach, Suspect at Large

LONG BEACH (CNS) - Police Thursday were investigating the shooting death of a man in Long Beach.

The fatal shooting occurred around 1:25 p.m. Wednesday in an alley of the 1800 block of Gardenia Avenue, at state Route 1, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

"Officers located a male adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers rendered medical aid and attempted lifesaving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased," according to a department statement.

Detectives determined a male suspect walked up to the victim in an alley and shot him. He then fled on foot, according to the department.

The identity of the victim was withheld pending family notification. A possible motive for the shooting was unclear.

The suspect's description was not available.
