LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Caitlin Clark scored 30 points, the most of her eight-game WNBA career, in the Indiana Fever's 88-82 loss to L.A. Sparks Wednesday evening in Indianapolis that dropped their record to 1-7.

College basketball's career scoring leader made 7 of 16 shots, including 3 of 10 3-point shots, and 13 of 15 free throws. Clark also had six assists and seven turnovers, both game highs.

Clark's previous WNBA high was 22, in a 91-80 loss to the New York Liberty May 18, her third game.

Clark's high came one game after her low, eight points on 2-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-5 3-point shots in a 99-80 loss to the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces, 99-80, on Saturday.

The Sparks (2-4) led for all but 2 minutes, 2 seconds of the first quarter, taking the lead for good on Lexie Brown's 29-foot 3-point jump shot 2:29 into the 10-minujte first quarter.

The Sparks led 24-15 after the first quarter, 37-32 at halftime and 59- 55 entering the fourth quarter.

Indiana cut the deficit to one twice in the fourth quarter, 61-60 and 64-63, then the Sparks scored 12 unanswered points as Kia Nurse scored seven points on two 3-point baskets and a free throw and Aari McDonald five on a 3- point basket and layup to take a 76-63 lead with 4:11 to play.

The Fever pulled within four, 86-82 with 7.3 seconds left on Clark's driving layup, but could get no closer.

Clark made her first shot Tuesday, a 26-foot 3-point jump shot, then missed her next three and made both free throws as Indiana trailed 24-15

Clark made 2 of 4 shots in the second quarter, including 1 of 3 3- point shots, and 4 of 5 free throws for nine points as the Fever outscored the Sparks, 17-13.

Clark made 2 of 3 shots in the third quarter, missing her only 3-point shot, and didn't take a free throw as Indiana outscored the Sparks, 23-22.

Clark made 5 of 11 shots, including 2 of 7 3-point shots, and 6 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter in front of a crowd announced at 16,013 at Gainbridge Fieldjouse.

Nurse led four Sparks in double figures with 22 while McDonald added 21 in 29:46 off the bench. Center Dearicda Hamby added 17 and forward Rickea Jackson 12.

Center Aliyah Boston added 17 and guard Kelsey Mitchell added 15 for Indiana.

The game came four days after the Fever defeated the Sparks, 78-73 on Friday night in front of a capacity crowd of 19,103 at Crypto.com Arena -- the largest home crowd in the Sparks' 28-season history, as Clark scored 11 points in her first victory in the WNBA..
