The House of Representatives passed a bill to potentially ban TikTok in the US, requiring its parent company, Bytedance, to divest within 165 days. Supporters cite national security concerns due to Bytedance's Chinese ownership. Opponents argue a ban could violate the First Amendment and harm businesses. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
One of the businesses affected by the potential ban is Summer Lucille, the owner of Juicy Body Goddess a curvy and plus-size fashion boutique.
Juicy Body Goddess is a brick-and-mortar and online store located in Charlotte, North Carolina but has a large presence on TikTok. The TikTok content creator has 1.4 million followers and is visiting Washington this week. In her interview with Gary and Shannon, Summer says she gets customers from all over the U.S. and worldwide who see her business on the platform. Other platforms like Instagram, X, or Facebook do not have the same effect as TikTok in getting her business seen and customers in the door both in-store and online.
