VAN NUYS (CNS) - Firefighters knocked down a contents fire inside a single-story home in Van Nuys Sunday, authorities said.

The first 18 firefighters dispatched at 12:37 p.m. to 7317 N. Tyrone Ave. had the fire out within 12 minutes of their arrival, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

"Thankfully, the sole occupant and his dog both escaped unharmed, however the home was not equipped with smoke alarms," the LAFD's Nicholas Prange said. "If the fire had started overnight, the outcome may have been tragic."

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
