Fewer Americans are opting for tummy tucks in Tijuana, primarily because of concerns about local cartel violence.
The medical tourism industry in this Mexican city has declined by over fifty percent.
Prominent figures in the sector, such as Ricardo Vega Montiel, who serves as the president of the Plastic Surgeons College of Baja, suggest that “There’s a lot of bad publicity about the city creating a negative perception. The government needs to step up and invest in strategic promotions to generate a better image for the region.”
Montiel mentions that approximately 3,000 Americans typically undergo bariatric surgery in Tijuana every month, but that number has now decreased to fewer than 1,500.
