LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Pro-Palestinian protesters threw fake blood in front of a Brentwood home, then placed red handprints on the ground before Vice President Kamala Harris' arrival for a campaign fundraiser Monday.

About two dozen protesters chanted "Free Palestine" and "Harris, Harris you can't hide you're committing genocide," blocked cars on the street and yelled "Shame on you" as people trickled into the home of attorneys Cliff Gilbert-Lurie and Leslie Gilbert-Lurie.

About a dozen Los Angeles Police Department officers stood in front of the home.

As she approached the podium to speak, Harris was interrupted by someone who called for a cease fire in the Israel-Hamas War. It was unclear who it was.

Harris then paused and said, "We live in a democracy. This is a very difficult time and it's important that we all agree that people should have the freedom to have their voices heard."

Harris recounted some of the Biden-Harris administration's successes in her speech, including keeping the cost of insulin down for seniors, helping provide affordable high-speed internet service and making diverse appointments to the federal bench.

More than 140 people attended the fundraiser which raised nearly $500,000 for the Biden-Harris re-election campaign, according to Leslie Gilbert- Lurie, a member of The California State University Board of Trustees.

Tickets for the event started at $500 per person for young professionals and rose to $1,000 per person for the "supporter" level, according to the entertainment news website Deadline.
