Halloween can be a fun holiday for kids, but as a parent, safety is always a top concern. This year, one Southern California city made it to the top 10 "safest" cities for trick-or-treating, according to a recent study by the Chamber of Commerce.

To determine the safest cities for trick-or-treaters, researchers looked at multiple safety factors such as pedestrian fatalities, violent crime, property crime, registered sex offenders, and the number of law enforcement personnel per 10,000 people. Each safety factor was graded on a 100-point scale, with a total of 100 points indicating the "safest" place for kids to go trick-or-treating.

Five California cities were ranked among the top 25, with Irvine in Orange County coming in at the 10th spot. Here are the top five safest cities for trick-or-treating in California:

  • Irvine in Orange County: Total score 75 (ranked 10th nationwide)
  • Glendale in Los Angeles County: Total score 74 (ranked 12th nationwide)
  • Carlsbad in San Diego County: Total score 70 (ranked 18th nationwide)
  • Murrieta in Riverside County: Total score 69 (ranked 21st nationwide)
  • Sunnyvale in Santa Clara County: Total score 67 (ranked 22nd nationwide)

Naperville, Illinois, was ranked the "safest" city for trick-or-treaters in the US.
