LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Metro buses on lines 70 and 258 will be detoured in East Los Angeles Sunday to make way for the 77th annual Mexican Independence Day Parade and Festival, officials with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.

Both routes cross the parade path, which begins at 10 a.m. at the intersection of  César Chávez and Mednick avenues.

The detours will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on César Chávez Avenue between Mednick and Record avenues.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead or seek travel alternatives.

The parade is billed as the longest-running and largest Mexican heritage parade in the country.

Mark Consuelos, actor and co-host of TV's "LIVE with Kelly and Mark," will be this year's grand marshal.

The theme is ``Empowering Latina Women In Our Community" and the parade will be broadcast and livestreamed on ABC7.

It will be dedicated to the legacy of the late L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina, who died of cancer on May 14.

The parade will be followed by the Grand Festival on Mednik Avenue, between East César Chávez Avenue and First Street.

Specific information about the Metro detours is available in English and Spanish at 323-GO-METRO (323-466-3876).
