LOS ANGELES (CNS) - With Hollywood writers and actors still on strike and no indications of a pending resolution to either labor dispute, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Wednesday delayed its annual Governors Awards event until January.
The 14th Governors Awards had been scheduled for Nov. 18 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City.
According to the Academy, the event will now be held Jan. 9 at the same location. The Academy did not specify a reason for the move, but the dual strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA actors' union have led to delays in other major Hollywood events, most notably the Emmy Awards.
During the Governors Awards, actress Angela Bassett, writer/actor/director Mel Brooks and film editor Carol Littleton will receive Academy Honorary Awards, while Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The Academy Honorary Award is given "to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy."
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is given "to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry."
